Imperfect’s Zero-Waste Gift Guide

The pursuit of perfection can make the holidays stressful, so we’re here to help check one thing off your list with our zero-waste gift guide. Making small changes during the holidays, like giving low-waste gifts, using less wrapping paper, and thinking twice before you throw out that slightly burnt pie, might feel minor but every action helps us get closer to a less wasteful world. We have ideas and inspiration for every budget, so whether you want to go full DIY or pick up some fancy finds, we’ve got a zero-waste idea for you.

Hedley & Bennett aprons

Aprons are back, baby, so grab one of these for the person in your life who embraced their inner chef during the pandemic. H&B also makes finding the perfect fit easy with their apron quiz.

Wrap thoughtfully

Zero-Waste Gift Guide wrapping with Imperfect's foil liner

One of the more obvious sources of waste around the holidays is wrapping paper, so start by thinking outside the box. Try wrapping a present in newspaper or the silver liners in your Imperfect delivery. Use reusable totes to cut out the waste entirely – and the totes themselves become a bonus gift! You can also focus on gifts that don’t need wrapping paper, like homemade baked goods or experiential gifts like classes or lessons, special meals, or festive beverages to share.

No matter how you celebrate, we hope this zero-waste gift guide gives inspires you to waste a little less this holiday. While there’s no perfect way to celebrate or give a gift, there are a million delightfully imperfect ways to make the holidays your own. Cheers to a less wasteful and more memorable holiday season!

When my oldest was 4, I stopped wrapping the presents from Santa. When she asked, I told her that Santa knew how much mommy like recycling and not wasting anything so he probably didn’t wrap the presents for me. She said that made sense. Never wrapped again. Now they get their gifts in gift bags that I reuse every year.

Teaching sustainability from an early age is amazing! We’re sure that’s something they’ll pass down one day too if they decide to ever have children of their own as well. ????????????

When my kiddos were young, we wrapped with newspaper and twine “from Santa”. Mix those gifts in with the unwrapped trucks, dolls etc which were placed artistically under and around the tree. We saved a ton of money ( so we could buy more toys!!)

My mother never wrapped the Santa gifts either…back in the 60’s and 70’s, many moons ago! She said that Santa didn’t have the time for wrapping gifts. Great idea. I have to let my daughter know this for my granddaughter’s Santa gifts!!! Thanks for the memory.

My mother in law made personalized Santa bags for her kids. Then we re- purposed the big bags for our daughters which were set out with the milk and cookies for Santa. He filled them with unwrapped gifts then tied them securely at the top.

I have an idea that I’ve used before to gift someone cookies. I’ve used the plastic boxes that berries or spinach come in. I put some type of liner in the bottom if there are air holes and then decorated the top with a section of Christmas card that I got from previous years.

Is it just produce that’s imperfect? Looking at your pictures, it appears that everything else is factory wrapped or bottled.

Not at all! Lots of our packaged products coke from foods with imperfections as well, such as surplus, cosmetic appearance, or others.
