About Imperfect

Imperfect is Now a B Corp!

With our mission to grow the movement to eliminate food waste and build a business that can change our food system, today it is our great honor to share that Imperfect Foods is officially a Certified B Corporation™!

In this season of gratitude, we are so thankful for every farmer that tends the land through challenging weather, each box of food we can delightfully deliver to a customer’s doorstep, and every customer who has joined this movement to reduce waste in our food system.

What is a B Corp?

Being a Certified B Corp means we have met the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. In other words: we’re committed to producing positive benefits for people and the planet. We’re excited to join together with the B Corp community of companies like Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s to collectively tackle the climate crisis, build a more inclusive society, and create more high-quality jobs that strengthen all communities.

How we became a B Corp

The “B” stands for benefit, and in order to become a B Corp™ you must undergo a rigorous third-party audit of all your practices to ensure your business benefits, not just shareholders, but all people, communities, and the planet. We’re able to achieve this special certification because saving food from waste is at the root of everything we do.

We started Imperfect in 2015 because one-third of the food grown in the U.S. goes uneaten and we saw the opportunity to make a positive impact and fix a broken system. Since then, hundreds of growers have joined us in our mission and we’ve saved more than 145 million pounds of food from lesser outcomes, which has avoided over 50,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. We’re also proudly on track to be a Net Zero Carbon company by 2030, 10 years earlier than major retailers.

All thanks to you

We couldn’t achieve this certification without the thousands of people who make Imperfect Foods possible. Thank you to every farmer and producer willing to think differently and work with us to make sure more of what they create makes it to dinner tables instead of landfills. Thank you to our employees for bringing passion, creativity, and kindness to their work each day. Most of all, thank you to our customers for believing in this movement to keep reducing waste throughout our food system – we are nothing without your support, and this is just as much your achievement as it is ours.

B Corp is a promise

We’re proud to have achieved this certification, though we acknowledge that we’re Imperfect and always have more work to do. This is not a moment. It’s an ongoing commitment to meet specific standards, transparency, and accountability, so you can rest assured you’re supporting a company with more than just profits in mind. Thank you for going on this journey with us.

Gratitude & groceries,

Maureen Shea, Chief Experience Officer & Maddy Rotman, Head of Sustainability
