While in town for Earth Day, we invited our Portland community to join us for a volunteer shift at the Oregon Food Bank, one of our fantastic donation partners in Portland. The result was beyond inspiring: Imperfect team members joined forces with Imperfect customers to pack 20,236 meals for those in need!
The Oregon Food Bank, which services all of Oregon, is on a mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes because no one should be hungry. The OFB collects food from farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers (like Imperfect), individuals, and government sources. They distribute that food through a network of 21 Regional Food Banks and approximately 1,200 food assistance sites serving all of Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Earth Day than gathering with our Portland community and supporting the Oregon Food Bank. With the help of great pump-up music and delicious Imperfect fruit, our group packed a total of 17,513 pears, 2,666 apples, and 4,104 onions. The Food Bank really impressed us with how organized and accessible their process was for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. We had fun, worked as a team, met some new friends, and felt like we were contributing to something important and bigger than ourselves. It was inspiring to come together, make a tangible change, and see fresh produce being distributed to those in need. Days like this are a welcome reminder of why our mission of ending waste and hunger matters so much.
We’re looking forward to offering more of these volunteer opportunities in each of our cities in the months ahead and hope you can join us in the future! There really is no greater joy than giving back to your local community.
