Together, we found a new way to reduce hunger and give back during the holidays.
We tried something new this year and let folks give their box to a non-profit instead of skipping it when they were traveling. We saw it as a small way to encourage charity and reduce waste, but the results truly astounded us.
Our community donated over 8,000 boxes of food to 6 nonprofits across the country!Read about permalinks(opens in a new tab)
On behalf of all of the nonprofits we work with and the communities they serve, thank you so much.
Who did these boxes benefit?
Your holiday generosity benefitted some incredible food banks that we work with across the country:
Southern California: Pomona Valley Food Bank
The Pomona Valley Food Bank provides boxes of nutritious food and household items to families in Los Angeles in need in addition to education and referrals to other social services.
Northern California: Project Open Hand
Project Open Hand uses food as medicine to nourish sick and vulnerable individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Pacific Northwest: Oregon Food Bank
The Oregon Food Bank works to eliminate hunger and its root causes in Oregon, with a focus on fresh foods, community empowerment, and government advocacy work. You can learn more about Oregon Food Bank and how they’re addressing hunger differently on The Unwasted Podcast.
Midwest: Greater Chicago Food Depository
The Greater Chicago Food Depository works with over 700 partner organizations across Cook County to end hunger and also provides job training to help folks overcome poverty.
Northeast: Anne Arundel County Food Bank
The Anne Arundel County Food Bank provides food to organizations across Maryland, serving over 1 million meals annually. They also assist individuals who need help getting medical equipment, clothing, and back-to-school supplies.
Texas: San Antonio Food Bank
The San Antonio Food Bank serves 58,000 individuals each week in Southwest Texas and works with over 500 partner agencies across the state to make food more accessible in Texas.
Thank you for paying your order forward to these admirable organizations this holiday season. You showed the world how much our community believes in the power of food to spread generosity and compassion!
I’d like to gift an order but my schedule doesn’t fall when I need a skip. Is there a way just to make a donation of a box?
Hey Beth! Apologies for the slightly late response. For now, the only way we can arrange a donation now is by letting folks opt to donate instead of skipping. That said, we got really positive feedback about this program and are looking into ways to enable folks to donate year round if possible. We’ll keep you posted!
